Cosy Day

Today is Cosy Day at school. The children were invited to come to school in their cosy clothes, eg think PJs, robes, onesies, etc. The Year 7 organisers ran a parade and lots of different games that the children did in their house groups, such as teddy tower, teddy throwing and hut building. So much fun! And a super duper great way to CELEBRATE US.

Swimming at the Aquatic Centre

We had two brilliant weeks of swimming and water safety lessons at the Richmond Aquatic Centre. The children put lots of effort into improving their swim technique and learning water safety skills.

Thanks to all of the amazingly kind and competent swim instructors and to Patsy for organising everything.

Winter Sports Tourament - Football Stars

These super star Turama kids had a brilliant day at Winter Tournament. They played 15 ten minutes games. They won 12, lost 1 and drew 2. Awesome!! Their teamwork was fantastic and they showed our school values of respect, responsibility and pride. Plus they had lots of fun!

Thank you so much to our wonderful parents Tessa and Wayne who provided transport and were great supporters too.

Tennis is back!

Vanessa is back coaching our children in the Tennis in Schools programme which we LOVE! She is amazing at getting all children onto the court hitting the ball and having fun. Thank you Vanessa!

Constructing Sentences Workshops

Turama children have been learning how to construct simple, compound and complex sentences.

We have been using a structured literacy approach of writing the different parts of the sentence (subject, verb, adverbial phrases, etc) onto laminated coloured card. For the children, we call the parts WHO, DO, WHEN, WHERE and HOW.

This approach is enabling all learners to construct sentences successfully, and it's a fun way to learn.

Our visitor from Japan also found it helpful for his English learning.

The Swamp, by Isla

I heard kids moaning, while looking down into the muddy depths of the water, from the creaking, rattling, broken bridge.

I saw scales manoevering through the water towards us. Beady eyes scanned the water beneath the bridge.

I felt something slimy brushing past my hanging leg. A shiver ran down my spine.

Did I see jaws open wide or were those reeds?

Was school really worth it?

Gone Spearfishin, by Charlie

I dived into the chilly water and pushed through the strong current to reach the majestic, black stingray. In the blink of an eye, it was three metres away.

BANG! My ears popped! I opened my mouth and water rushed in, tasting like those bitter gumdrops you can get.

Something swam past me, faster than I could see! Excitement rushed through me!

"What was that?" I thought.
